1. Information we collect

Account information

When you create or sign in to a MyMEO account, we may receive your email address, display name, profile image, authentication provider, and a unique account identifier. Password authentication is handled by our authentication provider; MEO does not receive your password in readable form.

MEO membership information

If you link an existing MEO membership to the app, the app may access the membership details already held by MEO. Depending on your record, this can include your MEO number, name, date of birth, sex, phone number, email, address, photograph, nationality, ethnicity, religion, marital or family details, UNHCR number, membership documents, welfare information, and membership dates. The app also displays account-link status and available app credit or wallet balance.

Emergency location

The app accesses your precise location only when you use the emergency reporting feature and choose to send your location to MEO. The app does not use location for advertising and does not continuously collect background location.

Camera and photos

Camera access is used to scan a membership QR code. Scanned camera images are processed for the scan and are not stored by MEO. If you choose a new profile photo, that image is uploaded and stored as part of your member profile.

Device, notification, and service information

We collect a Firebase Installation ID, notification registration information, your selected app language, notification delivery and read status, and basic technical information needed to operate and secure the service. Our service providers may also process information such as device type, operating system, IP address, and request logs when you connect to their services.

2. How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • create, authenticate, and maintain your MyMEO account;
  • link your app account to your MEO membership and display member services;
  • provide news, account credits, and service notifications;
  • deliver an emergency report and your chosen location to authorized MEO personnel;
  • process profile updates and support requests;
  • protect the app, prevent misuse, and troubleshoot technical problems; and
  • meet legal, safety, and organizational recordkeeping obligations.

We do not sell personal information or use it for third-party advertising.

3. How we share information

We disclose information only where needed for the purposes in this policy:

  • MEO personnel. Authorized staff or emergency-response personnel may access information needed to provide membership, support, and safety services.
  • Google Firebase and Google services. We use Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Firebase Installations, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Google sign-in, and Google Play services to operate core app functions.
  • Apple. If you choose Sign in with Apple, Apple processes the sign-in request and provides the account details you authorize.
  • Emergency communications. When you submit an emergency report, your account details and location may be sent to authorized MEO responders through MEO's emergency communication tools, including Telegram.
  • Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect a person, MEO, or the public.

These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies and only as necessary to provide their services to us or to you.

4. Retention and deletion

We retain information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the app and MEO services. Retention periods can vary based on the type of record. Emergency reports, membership records, and records required for legal, safeguarding, dispute, or operational purposes may be kept for longer where necessary.

Request account deletion

You can request deletion of your MyMEO app account and associated app data by contacting MEO through WhatsApp or phone. Include the email address used for your MyMEO account so we can verify and process the request.

Deleting your MyMEO app account does not automatically erase MEO membership records maintained separately from the app. We will explain any information that must be retained and the reason when responding to your request.

5. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect personal information. These include authenticated access, access controls, and encrypted network connections. No storage or transmission method is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your choices

  • You can deny camera, location, or notification permission in your device settings.
  • You can choose not to submit an emergency report or upload a profile image.
  • You can unlink your MEO membership from your app account.
  • You can disable notifications through your device settings.
  • You can contact us to ask about, correct, or delete your app account information.

Some features may not work without the information or permission required for that feature.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app, our practices, or legal requirements change. We will publish the revised policy on this page and update the date shown above.
